Justifiably so, global warming and climate change have become one of the most pressing issues of our time. To mitigate their negative effects, it is essential to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Germany and Europe have set ambitious goals to reduce their dependence on unsustainable energy sources and increase the share of renewable energy.

The role of crowdfunding is becoming increasingly important in the financing of projects. It allows project-financing-companies and energy cooperatives to reach a broader investor base and raise capital for their projects.
Simultaneously, investors can help shape their own future and even profit economically from the energy transition.

Energy projects are e.g. solar plant or wind farms that generate renewable electricity. The electricity is sold and thereby generates stable cashflows for the project.
These cashflows allow for low risk financing, usually with a tenor of 5-10 years and a fixed interest rate.
We believe that our world needs change. Change towards a more sustainable, equitable and responsible world. But it will not change by itself. We believe that meaningful progress comes from entrepreneurial people who challenge the existing reality. What if we gave everyone the power to create change? The power to decide what kind of future they want to create. The power to choose companies that they believe can make that future a reality.
Agradu promotes sustainable agriculture. The company builds, manages and operates renewable gas production plants using manure and residues that are not fit for consumption. Within a year and a half Agradu ran two very successful crowdfunding campaigns on Oneplanetcrowd, raising a total of 1.5 million euros in funding. Among other things, the funding was used to finance the subsidy-free production of green gas.
The largest floating solar plant in Europe is located at the Bomhofsplas in Zwolle. With 72,000 panels, the 18-hectare park generates green energy for more than 7,000 households. The energy cooperative Blauwvinger Energie aims to give as many people as possible access to green energy. With a crowdfunding campaign of over 1 million euros, Blauwvinger wanted to ensure that the financial return gained would stay in the community.
The wind farm Oude Maas is located in the Dutch municipality of Hoeksche Waard in South Holland. The site was chosen because it is particularly well suited for the generation of energy by wind turbines due to its combination of wind with technical infrastructure and the large divide between land and water.
With the help of the crowd, 1.8 million euros were quickly raised from 293 investors.
A trend which has not yet taken off here is already a well-established reality in other countries. For legal reasons, in the Netherlands, for example, renewable energy projects are already largely financed by the residents who live near the plants. This enables early community participation in economic growth and the energy transition in the form of fixed interest rates.
As the project progresses, the investment risk decreases because the costly phases are completed and regulatory and technical hurdles are overcome. Additionally, at the end of the project there are usually fixed purchase contracts that ensure regular and predictable income.
You gain access to financing projects in the renewable energy sector, which is otherwise only available to banks
You are doing something good while profiting from the energy transition
Fixed-income with fixed interest rates over a clear period of time
"Crowdfunding renewable energy projects offers our investors the opportunity to invest in renewable energy projects alongside the largest banks, professional investors and developers, while making a direct and immediate impact on the environment: generating renewable energy and reducing CO2 emissions."
